Current 2001 LUMCON Monitoring Station at Terrbonne Bay(Station 102)

Abstract:

The weather station collects both metrological and hydrographical data. The instruments that are used to measure and collect the data are calibrated on a regular basis. The data logger samples metrological data such as the year, Julian date, time, stationed, signature, latitude, longitude, air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, quantum solar radiation, barometric pressure, wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, and the number of scans done in a minute. The data logger also samples hydrographical data such as the year, Julian date, time, stationed, signature, latitude, longitude, water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, depth, turbidity, and the number of scans done in a minute.

Supplemental_Information:

There is both metrological and hydrographical information that is collected on a minute basis, hour basis, and summaries that are collected once a day. The information collected every minute is displayed on the web.

   Some of the instruments are calibrated by the manufacturer that we purchase our instruments from. The techs at LUMCON also calibrate some of the instruments. You can review these instruments by visiting www.weather.lumcon.edu then go to station information.

   Time gaps in the data are usually caused by the data logger failing to retrieve information. Other gaps in data could be caused by instrumentation that was not working properly.

5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

   The data that is collected is point data and the monitoring station is attached to a stationary platform in the water. Whenever there is a considerable amount of fog the data logger has a harder time connecting to the station. If any errors have occurred they could possibly be caused during the transfer of data. It is possible to have repeating data, which in that case the repeating data should be disregarded. Here are some significant dates and situations that have occurred. On 2001-04-17, version 11 of CSOS in Datalogger was installed. On 2001-04-25 Upon looking at the website, it was discovered that the rain gauge had transmitted an indication of .01 inches of rain, which is one tip of the bucket. Since it had not rained at that time, we inspected the gauge and the cable. Actions were taken to determine reason or cause of station malfunction. On 2001-07-02, Loaded datalogger software Rev H1. It provides a spike filter for the Barometric Pressure Sensor. If it detects an abrupt change in reading greater than 50 millibars it will pass the previous value recorded for the current pressure.
