Frequently-anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

    Title: LUMCON's Environmental Monitoring System
    Abstract:
LUMCON has five monitoring stations which collect both meteorological and hydrographical data. The instruments that are used to measure and collect the data are calibrated and maintained on a regular basis. Parameters such as the year, Julian date, time, stationid, signature, latitude, longitude, air temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, quantum solar radiation, barometric pressure, wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, precipitation, water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, depth and the number of scans in a given time frame are collected. These parameters are collected and saved in a .dat file.

Why was the data set created?

The goals of LUMCON's Environmental Monitoring System (LEMS) are: (1) to provide Internet access to basic data about Louisiana’s coastal environment for the general public, and for students and scientists in Louisiana’s university community for educational and research activities; (2) to provide a monitoring system accessible to all university scientists for developing their own research or educational programs requiring coastal data; and (3) to provide open and easy access to coastal environmental data to the general public or any interested persons.

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

Date: Unknown (process 1 of 1)
Raw data is stored on the server. Raw data is also backed up periodically throughout the year. Raw data files can be downloaded directly from the web site. Click on the archive data link which can be found from the weather.lumcon.edu page.

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

The data quality plan is still a work in process. Water height has been addressed which can be found by viewing the website www.weather.lumcon.edu. Review the following webpage for routine maintenance that was completed: <http://weather.lumcon.edu>

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

In order to view more details about missing or suspicious data visit <http://weather.lumcon.edu/> and click on the StationInfo link.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

    not applicable

How can someone get a copy of the data set?
